Ok so, this will be an extra special post since, first of all, I'm writing in English. Weird. But anyways, this time I will write about the concert of a band called Waterparks on Friday, 9th of march in Southampton; in an attempt for them to see that I really love them but that I couldn't really show it in the concert. So, I will use this as my redeeming opportunity for what I couldn't say/do at the concert because for some reason my brain doesn't work until a few hours after things actually happen. BTW, I bought a VIP ticket so I got to meet the lovely guys. I tried to prepare for it but still I think it was a bit awkward from me because it was the first time I meet a big/known band. But they do smell nice, and they are taller than I thought, or maybe I'm just shorter than I like to believe.
The first thing I want to say is: sorry for my lack of creativity for the picture. I had seen that people think of poses or do crazy things for their picture and I had thought about that, and I even got great ideas AFTER I had had the photo taken; but in the moment they just stretched their arms and I ran to get into them so yeah.
So, when I got to meet them I kinda hugged them quick and I gave them some watercolour drawings I made for each one. Awsten's was so hard because I decided to draw him with his coloured sweatshirt and his funny blue glasses plus his guitar and necklace so it required me to keep my hand very steady while painting it in, and it wasn't 100% successful but there it is. For Geoff, I love how he looks with muscle tees and I remembered he said he likes stripes so, what shirt did I draw? Yes, black and white striped muscle tee. And I think Geoff and Awsten actually wore the clothes I drew them in for the concert in Cardiff, which is quite strange but I guess there are only so many outfits they can wear if they don't throw their clothes away after wearing them once. And for Otto, it was more difficult because there weren't as many pictures of him as there are of Awsten and Geoff on the internet so I had a hard time choosing his outfit (and in the end I think I chose a too simple one) and also I didn't know which haircut to draw because while I was doing the painting I saw one very recent photo of him with very, very short hair so I was really confused. But I decided to go for a not-so-short but not-so-long (basically medium) style and there's that. Although now that I think about it, I should have drawn him with a sweater, red vans and a beanie. Too late.
The highlight of the experience: Awsten uploaded his drawing to his instagram and I was shouting on the inside so I didn't freak out anyone although maybe they would have thought it was normal since a girl cried and everything. I guess that's just the effect they have on people. The point is: AWSTEN UPLOADED MY DRAWING TO HIS INSTAGRAM. I'm happy for that; very, very happy.
On the sad note, that was the first time I got a real, nice, and warm hug since I left my country because it is not like I go through life hugging people, but sometimes I really need to. And it felt so good and it was completely worth the waiting. The guys smell really good and I can assure that they looked like they shower often. That's nice.
Anyways, I was too nervous and overwhelmed with happiness that I couldn't explain clearly to Geoff what I am studying in the UK (in part because I don't understand completely) but now I will try to explain to myself and whoever reads this: it's a course called Foundation that I had to take so that I could apply for universities in this country because my country's high school diploma wasn't enough, so it is basically an extra high school year. That is how complicated it is.
Now I feel like I need to mention something about Otto. I don't know what to say except that he said it was crazy that I went there all the way from Canada. It was confusing but funny. One of the funniest things from the Q&A was that first question was directed to him, but when everyone looked at him, he was already eating some chocolates or something that they had received previously; so he had a funny and kind-of-guilty smile but it was so cute.
I think I forgot to mention that I also gave them pins with the mexican flag just as a souvenir and because I seriously didn't know what else to give them when I had the chance to say "thank you for your beautiful music and for all of your hard work and for sharing a bit of your time to meet people who love you". And just in case that maybe looking at the pins (if they keep them) will remind them that they haven't played in Mexico even though it is a few hours south from where they live. Still, funny how it was easier to find them in another continent than in the neighbour country.
I guess that is all for now. I just wanted to share my experience and maybe let the boys from Waterparks that I love them and that I want to thank them for being part of the soundtrack of my life. By the way, this was written about a week after the concert, around the 15th of march I think; and yes, it took me a whole month to publish it and I'm sorry. That's all.
